Bastian Witte from Dömitz is standing next to paper machine 6 in the photo. Bastian made a conscious decision to train as a paper technologist. Since starting this technical apprenticeship in September 2024, Bastian has already got to know several areas of paper production.
His colleagues in stock preparation, the paper machine assistants and his colleagues on the reel have given him instructions and given him his first tasks. In their first year of training, paper technologists learn all about paper fibres, their preparation for paper production, how to operate the stock preparation systems and the basics of maintaining the systems and machines.
The step from a school routine to vocational training with a 38-hour week is a big one. But the time passes quickly thanks to the variety of tasks and the good teamwork between colleagues, who are often up for a laugh.
Bastian is impressed by the competence, know-how and work organisation of the production management. Good training for skilled workers stands and falls with those responsible for training and supervisors.
